Hello all,

I've got a Switch board that seems to function fine with exception to reading game cards. Upon insertion, I get an error 2002-2629 and have to shut down the unit. I have tried 3 different known working card sub-assemblies and different game cards tested in other Switches, however I get the same error every time.

Any suggestions on what this could be?

Sheriff.

I went through this not long back. I had no luck.. very interested in your findings on this

There is a BGA directly on the underside of the mainboard close to the connector for the daughterboard. I might consider refitting that as I suspect it is the game card controller unless I'm mistaken... Has anyone replaced that before successfully?

I literally just got another with the exact same problem. At first I thought it was just no touch screen but then I put a game card in and boom 2002-2629

Well I swapped that ic with one from a donor and it made no difference. I still have no touch and I get the error code when inserting game card

Dang goes that theory.

Have you checked the crystal just above the ASIC? There is little else to check frankly...
I checked it with a graphing meter and it seemed okay. I may attempt to swap it just in case.

I didn't. I'm starting to wonder whether this is paired with the CPU much like the NAND. I didn't attempt an IC replacement after you had no success....

OK. So update on this. I've got a big batch of units going through the workshop and that gave me access to a lot of gamecard slot subassemblies. After some trial and error, I've found a gamecard slot sub that doesn't trigger the error.

So it seems we're back to the subtle problem of different versions of gamecard reader and them being matched with particular hardware combinations....

Hope this helps your quest to fix this problem on your side of the pond.

You are luckier than I. I tried about 10 different game card slots& I get no touch at all& the error with game card insertion. Glad you got yours rolling. Always good to have a happy ending

Just making sure, but you weren't inserting the game cart in CFW were you? If the firmware in the game cart slot is newer than that of the current NAND, and you aren't using nogc, it crashes the Switch.

must be some components around the gamecard connector. had a switch with waterdamage in that area. got it back working including touch except the errorcode mentioned above.

Not really, when you update Switch firmware sometimes gamecard fuses are blown to prevent you from downgrading. For example when firmware 10.2.0 got updated to 11.0.0 a gamecard fuse was blown and if you had updated, then downgraded again you would get an error similiar to what the op posted if you tried to boot the switch with a gamecard installed.
Best thing to do is to update the Sysnand to make sure it's not a firmware issue.
