A while ago, I softmoded my Wii and have been succesfully using discs and backup USB Drive with most games. Here and there, there are some games that don't work (very few) but I know that's due to some IOS problem which I will adres in another thread.

Here's the problem:

Yesterday, my son got out Endless Ocean 2 to play. This game is on a retail disc. When he entered the disc, the Disc channel asked to update the system. I've trained my little ones good and he decided he'd better ask his fathers advice about this. I'm happy he didn't update the system as I assume my lovely homebrew channel would have disappeared.

So why is this happening? And how can I let him still play this retail game? I was thinking of ripping the game with USB loader GX and playing it from the drive, will that work?

Your help will make my 12 year old look up to his old man again.

as i know....got it running thru uLoader using WiiBackupManager to transfer it to HDD...in the options of WBM you could select "only game partition"...so the "update partition" in the ISO is kicked in the bucket..

hope it helps

As I understand it: Uloader is an alternative USB loader like USBloaderGX and WiiFlow. So possibly after using WiiBackupManager this should work. Unfortunately I don't run windows at home (it's all linux Ubuntu). But just to make sure. I would need an iso of the game (possibly acquired through USBloaderGX) and then strip the update part using WiiBackupManager.

This update part, I've heard a lot about it iso having the update part stripped. Am I right in assuming that Nintendo builds in this update part to oblige users to update their systems by blocking gameplaying via this system?

Is there anyway in recognizing a stripped ISO so I can rely on the download being stripped already?

You can rip games from your backup disk(or original) with usb loader. Format your hard drive in FAT32 (a good mood for down the road) and rip your game with usb loader. Voila!

Alternatively you can install priiloader and block updates and play from the disk. But usb loading is better for many reasons.

Im using Wiiflow it work perfect and never change because i like it.Same reason I never changed my wife.

I don't know if USB Loader GX can do a iso without the update part....i have a iso(downloaded from internet) this iso has everything in it.....the wiibackupmanager itself seperates the partitions in the iso...and yes in my opinion we where forced to update the wii(because you can't play the original game if you do not do the update...)

as far as i know........first get the Iso,then use WBM to transfer the ISO from PC to the HDD containing your Backups in the options menu of WBM you choose "only Game partition",after that you transfer the game...and have fun.

....and yes uLoader is an alternative to usb loadergx, wiiflow, neogamma(my favorite)....
