I have a WBFS formatted hard drive for all my USBLoading games..

Can I use this same hard drive to store my NES/Genesis/SNES roms?

Will the emulators see the WBFS formated drive? Or do I need to partition it for a small FAT32 partition just for the old ROMs..?

Thanks

wbfs is currently only recognizable by usbloaders

i also doubt you can put other files beside a wii iso in a wbfs partition

Ahh.. Ok, looks like I'll just put them on the SD card or swap out the hard drive for a USB Flash drive..

Thanks

If you have a big enough drive on your computer you could transfer the games to that, then partition your Wii HDD and put them back on. That is what I had to do. I made a 32GB FAT32 partition for emulator roms and media etc.

Yes.

However, i had some problems in order the emulators recognice usb drive partition.

I follow that steps:

1.Create a Fat32 partition at the begining of hard disk space (for instance wbts partition is the second partition xD)
2.Fat32 partition needs to be "active" and "logical"
3.I use a "small" partition (29GB) in order not to have problems with "supposed" max size for fat32 (32Gb)
4.Its said dvdx is needed

I don't know about emulators, but HBC, wadmanager and a couple of other apps recognise my approx 99GB FAT32 partition fine.

I will try the emulators tomorrow.

My external hard drive is formatted as:
partition 1 = 460GB at WBFS
partition 2 = 5GB at FAT32
Boot flag on partition 2

Snes9xGX and FCEUGX both see the hard drive partition and load roms from it.

Partition Magic or GPartEd should be able to resize any partition. As long as you're shrinking the WBFS partition from the end of it there should be no data loss unless you have a very filled up drive. No program out there that resizes partition will know how to move data on a WBFS partition though. After doing the resize use the WBFS Manager to do an integrity check on the WBFS partition to make sure you don't have any issues.

Fat32 partition should be at the beginning for maximum compatibility w/ homebrew in general, but isn't absolutely necessary (although a few apps may not see it if it's not). However, the partition definitely does not need to be under 32GB, nor does it need to be set to logical. Primary is perfectly fine (and possibly better... for example, some folks have trouble with MPlayer-CE seeing the logical partition I believe), as is a larger size. My FAT32 partition is 400GB, and everything sees it just fine.

wbfs partitions are absolete. Pretty much all usb loaders are able to load games from fat32 partitions.
The filesize on a fat32 partition is limited to 4.7Gig. Sometimes, movies are bigger.
Wii games are divided into pieces that still fit on a fat32 partition. Those are no problem.

not that is matters much (because of the splitting) but for the record:

actually the max filesize for fat32 is even smaller, its just under 4.0 GiB (or 4.3 GB)
4.7 GB (or 4.3 GiB) was the maximum total capacity for single layer dvd

Ok, I see. I always thought those 2 figures were the same.
Thanks for correcting.
(I never had needed the exact numbers. Just know the splitting programs use that maximum - 32KB)

I have a 1TB HDD, formatted as 1 FAT 32 partition. Used for Wii games, emulators, music, movies, everything really, (except GC games of course, that's what 32GB SD cards are for though) and it all works fine. Get shot of the WBFS, as obcd said, it's not needed any more.

Gc games can't go on fat32 hdd? Aren't gc games too large to for on sd?
yes they can what would be wrong with putting them in a hard drive and no they are not to big for an sd card either i mean there are 128 gig sd cards how big do you think a gamecube game could be XD anyways all gamecube games are 1.4 or gigs so they will fit on as little as a 2 gig sd card

I get putting Wii and Gamecube games on a USB Hardrive, but why bother putting NES/SNES/GBA/etc. Roms on it? Combined I have like 200-300 Roms on my 2GB SD card and I still have nearly 1.5 GB left.
