Homebrew Emulators freezing?

I've been using the Wiiflow plugins a long with a bit of retroarch .dol files to play some GBA and SNES games. This works reasonably well, the only problem being on occasion, the games will freeze with seemingly no reason, and my only option is to hold the power button on my Wii.

Does this happen to anybody else? And if so can anything be done to fix it. I am using the latest versions of all these emulators.

Have you tried using the emulators outside of Wiiflow (just by themselves)? I've never had RetroArch lock up on me like that, so first try them on their own
