I used to use xat / chatango on my website. These have their drawbacks, especially in the ways to connect. But if you embed mibbit on your site you can have people who visit your site join the irc channel of your choice. You can also see/chat with whoever is on your site just by connecting to irc on any device. This is much preferred by me because of how universal it is!
Not to mention it's browser friendly (built with Ajax / Javascript not the typically cumbersome java applets. )
