EasyRPG itself still gets progress from time to time (latest update was in May this year). That said, ye, Rinne doesnt work on this anymore

So I'm trying to open easy rpg, and all I'm getting is a black screen for the top, and a dark red screen on the bottom. I have an old 3ds with 11.13.0-45U if that's any help

How are you trying to load easyrpg? That sounds like you are trying to get to hbl but you are missing the boot.3dsx file. I could be mistaken tho, so please provide more details as in what is the current state of your console in regards to cfw or homebrew

im confused how im suposed to install and use this

When it comes to installation, it is pretty much like your average 3ds homebrew. You either install the .cia to the home menu and then use it from there, or you copy the .3dsx to the "3ds" folder on your SD card and then go to the Homebrew Launcher. The next step is to add the games you wanna play/test. You do that by copying the entirety of the game into a folder under this directory: "sdcard:/3ds/easyrpg-player". So let's say you wanna play Ib on your 3DS; you need to grab the game folder after you downloaded it manually to your PC and copy it to the easyrpg player folder. Keep in mind, the folder that you copy needs to be the one that inmediately contains the game files, e.g.: "/*GameName*/*RPG_RT.exe and a bunch of folders and .lmu files etc.". So, for Ib, the folder structure should be: "sdcard:/3ds/easyrpg-player/Ib/*game files, including RPG_RT.exe*".Once you do that, launch EasyRPG and you should see an entry on the selection menu that displays the name of the game folder (it will display the folder name, so in the example it would display "*GameName*"). That's about it, launch your game and have fun/test as much as you feel like.

Has anyone successfully played a game with this app? Because I suspect the app doesn't run very well on O3DS.

I was testing version 0.6.2.3, 0.7 , 0.8 , I tried 4 games The latest version 0.8 runs the games pretty slow and you should avoid it for now

Clock of Atonement: It's a 10 minute game, and you shouldn't have any problems running at full speed
Professor McLogic Saves the Day: Runs well, has constant speed drops. A error pops up but I don't know how it affects the game
Touhou Mother: barely playable, and has long loading time in battle
Desert Nightmare: Not fullspeed but playable
