Gaming e-Shop question, and internet connection

Hi all! idk if anyone asked this before (I searched it but to no avail) :

I was wondering what happens if u purchase something, and while downloading u get disconnected from the internet. Will download resume to the point where it got stopped? Will all data be lost? I noticed download speed was quite slow for me for a reason (and it wasnt even a large of a game). Can't help but thinking about what might happen..

Any ideas?

You will have to re-download it, but you won't have to pay for it, unless the connection was lost before you actually spent your money.

It happened to me with Link's Awakening and I re-downloaded it. Someone unplugged the router by mistake midway through *looks pointedly at Girlfriend*. I think if you delete it you can still download it again for free like in the Wii shop- mine thought I'd paid and hadn't started downloading at all and it was about a third through
