Ok here's the deal, 1st. off yes I'm a noob,however I did complete 4 soft-mods on 4 different Wii's so far.
Well I bricked my 1st one to the point that only a new motherboard or a infectus chip will save it however it played all my back-up games flawless.
So having went out and purchased a new Wii, now this is my 4th.soft-mod, it's unable to read ANY of my old back-ups.Some new D3c chip or something that wouldn't allow it to read dvd-r's.So my question I guess is,if I take the bricked wii's dvd drive out and swap it into the new wii will it read my old back-ups from the disc?Seems the drive has it's own mother board or is this new D3c chip on the Wii's Main motherboard?
I'd hate to brick another one trying this out.

Older drives you could swap at will as they were all compatible and were not tied to a given wii.

As far as I am aware this has held for newer drives, the only way to brick it is to use the drive to load code that can be used to brick the wii so have at it.
