Hardware DVD drive not burning correctly?

I've got a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-105 and when I go to burn files onto a DVD -R disc (Yes, the drive is compatible with them), it says the disc has 0bytes free and 0bytes used, no matter what disc I use, it's the same, I was planning on making a few hard copied back ups onto DVD's but it doesn't really seem like an option...If I burn video files (avi's,mkv's etc.) onto the disc using DivX, it burns fine, so is there a solution? Or do I need to buy a new DVD burner?

RAM: 1024MB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT

I would say you have to buy a new burner.... I had an issue like that back when I use to burn games , I burned so many -r disks that my multi reader would no loner burn to -r disks .....it you buy a new burner make sure its an LG , I replaced my old burner with a LG external burner and have had no problems with it
