Dsi save data

I have a rom (ds) file of pokémon heart gold and wanted to install someone else’s savedata on it, I was wondering how i would do that

Normally you just put the save where the savegames are stored (same folder as the roms or a saves folder depending on your setup) having the same name as the rom, just another extension normally .sav .

I did that but when I loaded up the game it said “expanding save file” and then started me from the beginning like it was a new save file

Run the rom in an emulator and import the sav, the sav file might just be corrupted. Also check if your save is the same language as your rom.
