Does anyone think that it's really going to be released when they say it will be?

Someone correct me on this, but I recall that Sakura has been announced in April 2008. Since then it has been scheduled for release and delayed countless times. Until the final release in Feb 2009 there was only an incomplete Sakura version that was locked to Asian M3 Real carts. This is why people today are generally suspicious of M3 Team's release dates (hey, this is still better than the Duke Nukem Forever incident).

That's pretty much what happened, but just to add some details to powered_by_tux's post:

Before M3 Sakura was even released and all we had was the original TouchPod firmware for the M3 Real, the G6/M3 team announced a release date for M3 Sakura. First they released teaser screenshots, then they released a beta firmware that couldn't load ROMs as a preview. At the time no one had ever seen a loader like Sakura and this created a lot of hype on the forums. People started doing counting down the days until the release of Sakura, and when the release date came, there was no Sakura. So it created a lot of speculation, baseless claims and dissent in the M3 forums. The release date kept being re-announced and pushed back, until people got tired of waiting and the hype died down. When they finally did release Sakura, it was in Japanese, and region-locked to Japanese flashcarts only.

A new hype wave started, but since no one had a Japanese M3 Real, no one could use it. I had a Japanese M3 Real, so I started the M3 Sakura FAQ since I was the only one who could use it and provide info on it. The G6/M3 team promised an English version within a few days, but it never came. So a guy named iamanobody came out of nowhere and hacked it so that it could be run on US/EUR M3 Real flashcarts. I translated the GUI and worked with Toni Plutonij and mercenary96 to create the first English skin for it. We had a hacked, fully-English GUI within a day, and then the M3 team posted this message.

There was another hype wave when Sakura jumped from v1.12+a to v1.34. Again, it was region-locked so I was the only one who could use it and I made a v1.34 beta preview video showing the differences in the new version. Efforts were made to hack v1.34, but in the end it proved to be too complicated and the official English version was released before it could be hacked. Again, the M3 team promised an English version within a few days, but the wait became over a month.

After that, no one really took any of their release date announcements seriously again. I didn't even get into the Moonlight incident, but that's another matter completely. I would suggest you don't revive that thread or bring it up anymore because no one really knows the exact circumstances. Moonlight says one thing, while GBalpha says different.

Anyway, the release of Kaura is the first time they've ever announced a release date and stuck with it.
