Looks it. I've seen Target have specials on the DS by bundling stuff with it - i.e. Buy DS get free Mario Case. I don't monitor DS prices but first time I noticed an actual price drop. But it is only the weekly special...

Wow, 119.99 USD... that's only about 85 EUR! Considering a new DS lite costs about 130 EUR here that's quite a bargain.

Looks like that Dollar weakness is actually really quite good for importers. US better give away their goods for free, as long as they can afford the shipping and handling.

Zellers, a Canadian retail store, is having the DS Lite on sale for $109.99 for October 13th~20th, with a new regular price of $129.99 instead of the current $149.99.

An upcoming price drop is most likely to happen in the next few days.

Looks like that Dollar weakness is actually really quite good for importers.

Technically the weak dollar is bad for imports. The dollar is not as strong so buying items from "away" should go up in value. Good arguments can be for and against having a weak dollar but that's probably best for economic forums.

Overall I'm not sure why Europeans are paying so much more for the DS and Wii. Even when converting the Euro or pound to USA dollars the average cost of all Nintendo products is very high in Europe. Maybe due to high import taxes or something similiar?

And yes, a lot of it is due to taxes. Here in Germany we pay 19% so-called "Mehrwertsteuer". US prices usually are without taxes, IIRC?

The only tax on our consumer goods comes in the form of sales tax. States levy taxes on average of 7.5-8.5%. They are not a part of a listed price, and they are added at checkout time. There are taxes on cigarettes, gas and some other stuff a part of the prices though.

The regular price here in Belgium is 216 US Dollars, WITHOUT extras (games, cases, etc.). I was lucky enough to find one in a store for 198 US Dollars.

HMPH. BLARGH.

aaahhh, thanks for the info. And you're correct - sales tax is typically not listed in the selling price in the USA. The sales tax is based on the State you live in. And it varies greatly - New Hampshire has zero sales tax, while I believe California can be in the 8-9% range. And with online purchases if you buy from a store that does not have an actual store front in your state - zero sales tax!!! Well you're -suppose- to claim the tax later when you file your yearly income tax return... but very few do.
