Hacking dragon quest IV crashes black screen

hey i have a problem with dragon quest IV crashing in chapter five at the beginning when everybody dies in the village, i try to exit the room they put me in and when i try to go outside the game goes to a black screen and nothing happens. crashes? any ideas?

I have the same problem when I try to enter the big tent at the desert bazaar in chapter 2.
