I don't think I can run Moonshell as I am running a Supercard DSOne which uses a modded moonshell as its OS but the video player is, to put it lightly, rubbish. It skips half the frames, freezes all the time I don't know whether its my old DS or just the fact that its rubbish. I found a WIndows application to play the DPGs and it ran fine so the problem must be the video player.

Anyone know any good DPG players other than moonshell?

I have a SuperCard DS ONE i and the moonshell on it is also crap,
so I use the latest one MoonShell 2.0 Stable.
It doesn't matter if you have a Super Card or not, works great.

Just install the latest version of Moonshell on your card and launch it from the SCDS menu. It seems silly to boot Moonshell from within Moonshell, but that's what you must do.

Thanks I guess. It does seem odd and I thought such a thing wouldn't work but I'll do it. I'm just doing this to see if it works really.

Hit a snag. Moonshell won't boot. Will paste the logbuf here.
Running on a DSPhat (from around the time of UK launch) with a Supercard DSone SDHC and a 2gb Sandisk Memory card formatted to FAT32
Something flashes up about DLDI but it dissappears before I can read it, besides I thought my supercard would patch for me.

I personally have never used Moonshell 2.0 but I've heard it's rather picky with filesystems and possible filesystem corruption. Try installing 1.71 instead and see if you can get that running, and then worry about 2.0.

Your problem with moonshell 2, is common.
Just reformat your card (remember to back everything up) and then copy back.
Alternatively, try defragmenting the microSD. Worked for me once, but took an hour to complete.

no. DONT defrag your microsd card.
its dangerous...or so i heard.
cuts down the lifespan of your micro sd card.

That it does... Backup your files and then do a format and put your files back on. That defrags your SD card without constantly writing to sectors.

Defrag is bad because it uses the disc itself to hold all the temporary bits and peices as it reshuffles the files... Instead of the format method which only takes 1 write (quick format doesn't change any bits and therefore isn't damaging and then rewriting the files) it literally could write over a sector a hundred times or more greatly reducing the amount of times they can be used.
