np, and try the recovery mode before you bother doing the nand mod, it may just work, he will end up on 9.9, but atleast it will be working

Dumb question here, but I wanted to ask since we're on the topic of NAND. I was wondering if currently there is a way to restore the NAND backup on the 3DS other than by means of taking the 3DS apart (I've seen many threads with people uploading images of their 3DS internal chips)? Like for the Wii, you can backup the NAND via Bootmii, and restore a bricked Wii whenever you want to by running Bootmii by holding down a button. Does the 3DS have this functionality yet (i.e. restore a bricked 3DS via software)?

I think not, right? I haven't seen any threads regarding this.

nope, only way to restore a nand backup via software is via the GW menu.....and if your bricked you can't do that

most likely....you would have to rebuild his nand though....maybe use a donor nand to fix whatever it was he messed up......only problem atm though is that he has likely messed up his FIRM, its possible, but it would need more looking into to see exactly how he bricked it

sorry i cant really, its not something i have done myself and it really all depends on what exactly was done to the 3DS to brick it, i suggest you read up on how the nand is put together, what files do what and try fix whatever it was he bricked it with.....there was a option in rxtools that used to cause bricks because of a bug it accidentally deleted a file from the nand, if it was just that you could potentially just retrieve the file from the 9.6 emunand backup and fix the nand and be all set, if he tried updating sysnand he will have more issues fixing the FIRM partition........if you do have a spare motherboard it would be the much simpler option
