I am playing Donkey Konga 3 from Japan, and it wont let me save. In fact, I was playing Nintendo Puzzle Collection before it, and it saved fine on my US Memory card that was formatted by that game to be a Japanese format card. Donkey Konga 3 won't save if I use the freeloader, and it formats my card everytime and doesn't save anything. Is there anything I can do?

i had freeloader and an euro gc and a few japanese games, naruto, soul calibur2 und pn03
if i remember right, you need a separate memory card for japanese games?
but i don't remember what the actual difference was.
did i format it inside a japanese game? i dont remember, sorry

Good Morning.:)

You remember correct.👌

Google got me here, I have, more or less, the same issue. I made some screenshots of the pop-ups upon startup:

Anyone knows what it says?

Unfortunately, you need a seperate Memory Card for Japanese Games for the GameCube.😢
Maybe have Look on this Thread please:

Thank you.😊

To clarify, I have an empty memory card, so the game can do whatever it wants with it. I do see a savegame in the GC menu (I did 'initialize' in the game), but it doesn't save apparently.

In the meantime I found this:
those games are designed to avoid data corruption and simply will not allow saving if the Gamecube BIOS is set to the other region; so realistically those games require a second Gamecube as well.
So if that's true, it seems there are games (like Donkey Konga 3) where the console region needs to match the game disc. Never knew!

(for completeness sake, I'm on PAL)

EDIT:
Also reading through Alexander1970's link. Just read "If an actual Japanese format memory card is inserted, the system won't be able to read its contents."

@mrgone: Oh wow, didn't know google could translate screenshots!
