Does the downgrade process still break the Blu-ray Drive?

Back when the downgrade process was first documented, many people lost their blu ray drives in the process. And the fix involved a lot of work, getting the last blu-ray movie that you played, and extracting files from that movie to re-enable buray playback.

Does anyone know if this is still the case?

Thanks

IIRC this is still the case, however its REALLY simple to fix.

I bricked mine trying to play newer than 4.46 REX blu rays, but its the same process for DG too.

I posted my 2 min method here: http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=79540&p=812261&viewfull=1#post812261

All you need is a newer BD than you last used, or the last one you used.

In my case I knew CA:WS was the last one. Its easy, and you dont need to be on a specific FW version either.
