I used to have quite a lot of disc drive noise before installing the Wiikey. Now that I notice it, the Wii has been making a lot more noise during gameplay and the noise sounds worse than before, and I'm afraid the drive will die. Is this a laser problem or a drive mechanic problem? Does it arise from playing backups?

Throw in the config disc.
And set the Disc speed to 3X.

Normal setting is 6X.

The thing is it happens with original games too.

When I put MP3 original today in it spat out a disc read error the first time (WTF? That has never happened with any backup). The second time it worked, but not without noises.

The Wiikey is set to 3x as it was by default.

Hmm....
Try to check the connections... something might not be right.
If that dont work... well if you still have warrenty. Then just play if it dies then take out the chip and give it back to Nintendo.

I have noticed that my Wii makes humming or pulsating noises whenever I play backups. Its not really noticeable but I just realized it earlier this week.
