Just got a refurbished star wars psp 2000 from gamestop and i think the umd drive lens is broken. I am not sure if i want to return it for a piano black slim don't know if it has a hackable mobo. Should i just keep the star wars slim and hack the crap out of it or get my moneys' worth and get the piano black with a working umd drive? Any fix for without buying a replacement parts? Thanks.

It's up to you.
I doubt gamestop would sell a faulty PSP. Check the UMD discs for dust, etc.

While you don't need the UMD drive for downloading games and playing but if you ever decide to buy games in the future (support the game devs ftw) you'll be fucked.

Take it back and say it won't read your UMD games, use a disk to prove it. They'll offer you either a replacement or a refund if you have the receipt.
There's no point in settling for less than perfect when you paid for it expecting perfect.

Take it back. Simple as that. Since you only just bought it they'll have a 7 day guarantee or something on their Used products and will take it back instantly since its broken.
