I know we have ways to backup games to storage, but I was just wondering if it can be done with only a disc and HDD? I know when I use wii flow on my wii, you can insert wii disc, and backup the game directly to storage without any need of a second app/ pc tool conversion whatever. So I was curious if such a thing was in development for wii u?

yea, CleanRip 2.0.0 supports dumping Wii games to iso on Wii U via Wii U's vWii mode.
Gamecube games are not able to be ripped on a Wii U however.

I wouldn't mind if the disc-ripping app would rip the disc to SD card, and then seamlessly install the game to USB, as long as I setup all the prompts before the rip happens. And then when it's done, it could spit the disc out and prompt if you want to rip another, or exit to Homebrew Channel.

To be honest I assume it won't be possible since I guess the wii u being a encrypted system in all compared to wii where HDD connections isn't suppose to be possible unless the software in use supports it, and it wasn't encrypted format. But since the wii u is completely different than wii I kinda expect to not be as simple.

I just kinda hoped it be as easy mostly to speed up backing up process or least make it simple. Having to copy to SD card, then install to HDD with prompt in between to switch apps from disc2app > wii usb helper installer. Being easy to insert disc and go do something else until is done is a simple process, and doesn't require need to have SD/USB to copy to before installing. :)
