Well great I'm glad to hear all is well again. When DM works.. it saves lives :grog:

Now don't forget to do a NAND backup in all the glorious "it's working again" excitement ;)
I uninstalled DM2.3 and made clean MIOS backup of my nand since I have thing for actual disc compatibility if I ever need to restore the backup.
Then I Installed 2.8 and it works - pure MBR thing - I think it should be added to the OP since it seems to be a wider thing.

Just found game and mic on eBay for $10 w/free shipping, I want to get it but I'm tempted to see if I can find it cheaper thanks to d.d.d. :P
Haha I got it about the time the Wii came out so the GC games were being shoved out the door (and I bought it/live in Japan). Cheaper than $10? Maybe but $10 is still a good deal for a good game. ;)

Yep I bought it, now I'm in the market for Eternal Darkness and the DK Bongos only and I'm done with my complete GC collection :D

DM pretty much runs every game I want except for a select few. Devo for the Audio streaming and mic support. I'm in emulation heaven, I freaking love the Wii!

Besides a few game patch regressions if there was a way to get GUN, X-Men Legends II, Smuggler's Run and 007:EON to run with DM it would be perfection for me. I don't even care about Audio Streaming games since I own the few that are worth playing (except WaveRace:BS). I own 007:EON so no big deal but I would prefer to play it with DM ;)

Shit I gotta get WaveRace too now that I mention it lol.

As long as u have a USB plugged in, playing retail discs is no problem with DM.

Edit: just got WaveRace:BS for $5 free shipping.

Not really, to my current experience, USB loading works never the first time I plug in my drive, and after that sometimes, sometimes randomly it will just shut down, sometimes it will black screen hang, and usually - though it is hard to call "usually" really, it should boot the game. This effect is even worse on disc loading on current dios mios for me what brings rate of successful booting down to once in 20 tries.

That's odd I haven't had issues playing retail discs with 2.8. I defragged my HDD with Piriform's Defraggler and its like I have a while new drive. I was using an inferior Defrag program before and I think that lead to other issues I was having.

if it was not any indication, my past problem I had with Dios Mios made me go through multiple drive reformats and the drive probably has no big fragmentation as of yet. It only had data written on the FAT32 partition once.

I definitely understand what you're going through so I know you have no defrag issues especially after all the re-formatting lol. I was merely stating what has worked for me in case others might be having issues as wel :)

By the way have you also checked you drives health lately? Sometimes there are simply bad sectors on your drive, this shouldn't hinder DM performance but I'm just throwing things out there just in case.

Not really. I ought the random DM compatibility for me is the fact that the drive also has a CD device in it and two separate partitions.

there are some tutorials on deleting the virtual cd drive on most hard drives it might help if your still having problems

Yeah, it might have to do with the the CD device. Dios-Mios might not be able to tell which one it's supposed to use and if it's just which one, the CD or the HDD, that responds to it first that get's used it's all the luck of the draw.

The reason why Dios-Mios needs USB plugged in to run a retail disk is because it always mounts that first. If it can't mount it, it won't play anything.
SO if you have random trouble playing games off the HDD, you'll also have random trouble playing the retail disk.

Oh he's talking about a virtual device on his HDD, now I understand what he means, silly me :P

Yea there are ways to remove that off your drive Sumea. It might help with your compatibility starting up games.

Yeah ED is the last game for the GC that I really want to own. Years ago I saw Gamestop was clearing out the DK Bongos and picked up a few.
WaveRace is good but I think the N64 one was better despite not being as pretty.
I know what you mean, the Wii is probably my favorite console due to everything it can play.

I said because this http://gwht.wikidot.com/dios-mios

DIOS MIOS is a modification to your Wii's system software that allows you to play GameCube (GCN) games on your Wii from a FAT32 hard drive. If you install this, you will no longer be able to play GCN games via the disc channel, so we also include instructions for launching discs with DIOS MIOS installed.

There were versions of DIOS MIOS (Lite) which had problem with playing retail games from the Disc channel, but it has been fixed.
Like Maxternal said, if you have DIOS MIOS installed you still have to connect your HDD as it's trying to mount it first before reading from disc.

If you have DIOS MIOS Lite, you don't have this problem. (well, I never tried to run DML+Disc without an SD card)
