Gaming Desktop is slow >_<

I am really curious of what is slowing down my desktop so bad. I right click, and it takes forever to show it... Takes about 2 to 3 seconds when before I installed a certain program. I think it might be one of the programs I installed, and I have a feeling it might be Rain Meter. Every program I have doesn't slow my PC down, and never has.

Unless there is some process on my computer that slows meh down. Here's a list of every single program I installed on my PC:

i find that msn or yahoo usually slow down my computer a lot esp if you have it on startup. you should really consider getting rid of yahoo messenger and windows live and replace them with something like, pidgin or trillian or digsby. an all in one program.

MSN and yahoo messenger tends to slow down desktops, especially if you have auto sign in on.

But what really makes me curious is that I had these programs before and the desktop would never slow down. Right clicking was never a problem. I might re-install windows once again, but that'll mess up my HDD...

Just a quick note - Have you checked for Spyware & Viruses ??

I had a massive slowdown once & after a major scanning of Adaware,Spybot,malwarebytes,A-squared plus a few other online scanners etc - I found my PC was infected

Also try [Ctrl],[Alt][Del] & call up the 'Task manager' - see if there's any processes that seem to be constantly running (using CPU time) even with the PC idling, this might point towards something that is slowing you down

what are your specs? and get the following programs:
-a decent antivirus (such as avast pro, bit defender, or kaspersky)
-winxp/vista manager


o and defrag your computer.

ctrl + shift + esc, and look if some of the processes on your computer take a lot memory, and check your ram, if you have not enough ram your computer will be very slow...

get rid of windows live and yahoo, and get a all in one client

maybe get rid of one of the 4 internet browsers?

deinstall vc++ 2005,

and defragment your computer and check for viruses/spyware

Yea my drivers are. I will be pretty freaked to find out I already have a virus. Since I installed Windows 2 days ago.

Specs:
3.4 GHz Pentium 4
2GB Ram (512MB x 4)
40GB HDD (Where I put Windows stuff and important programs)
640GB HDD (Games, Photoshop, extra programs that I can live without)

Think that is all you need to know x)

whats your CPU usage and PF usage? when you press ctrl alt + end

btw mine does 2~3 secs too. but i don't really mind, as long as when i push the power button it takes 2~3 mins to load everyhting/start up. im fine with that

why a intel GMA driver + ATI driver? uninstall the unnecessary one.
Your 40 GB HDD is slow I guess...move your windows installation to the 640GB one

But the 640GB is for games and stuff that take up lots of space. 40GB is solely for programs that are needed for meh. (eg. Mircosoft Office 2007)

Again: Your 40 GB HDD should consist of two 20 GB platters
Your 640 GB HDD consists of two 320 GB platters, which have a higher Byte per mm/nm/whatever rate, so more speed

install XP on this 640 GB HDD and it will be faster

what's rocketdock? it looks suspicious and it may be the one slowing your desktop. you might not installed it in the beginning. i see no harm from the rest.

I installed Stardock Desktop it made my laptop to go slow. what a fucking program. BLACKLISTED!!

if i were in your situation, i will re-install windows because like me, stardock really destroyed my PC and cannot be repaired.

I see magicdisc. what's that too?

Are you insane? Rocketdock is probably the best application launcher. A million times better than other docks and a whole lot faster. It increased my desktop speed actually.

I hate swearing.

Alright... I installed a bunch of programs and I still don't have the slow desktop ^^

These are the programs I narrowed it down to:
- MagicDisc
- Windows Live Essentials
- Windows Live sign-in Assistant
- Windows Live Upload Tool
- Messenger Plus! Live
- Yahoo! Messenger
- RocketDock

All these programs start in the beginning when I log in. I am still thinking whether or not, I should install these programs right now, but I am gonna have to think about it first. Windows Live is a must since I use it to talk to friends and people. I don't really want to try other all in ones... The design of it isn't hard to get used to. And with this, if I or friend's find a bug, I can help em' out. Yahoo! Messenger can stay out for a while until I actually get myself a Yahoo Email-adress.

Then leaves RocketDock and Magicdisc. I need MagicDisc whenever I download "things" since I am gonna need a mounting device. And RocketDock is nice since I can use it instead of going all the way to the QuickLaunch Toolbar, Start Menu or Desktop.

Platters are the mechanical plates in your HDD...higher amount of GBs per platter = more speed because of higher byte per mm rate

so use the 640 GB HDD as primary HDD for your OS...
