Gaming Deleting a games update data?

Not sure if this is the right section but I was wondering if/how to delete an update from a game without deleting save data. I am trying to do this with a cartridge game.

Apparently you can't.

Once you download an update, your cart is useless on that console without it installed, even after a reformat it seems. Wow. pic.twitter.com/CdraHxKAWB

That's unfortunate. Was hoping to uninstall a patch from Xenoblade that fixed a exploit to gaining lots of exp. Oh well, thanks for the reply.
