Pulling a topic that has been on the mind of people for a while now (I hope I'm putting this on the right place)

Dead Internet Theory, becoming more real than ever? Bots have existed for a while now, but they seem to start becoming extremely prevalent

Obviously this seems to apply the more mainstream parts of it, see social media like Twitter, Reddit, Instagram, marketplaces, dating apps, etc

They have slowly become more into ways of content consumption than actually about socializing

With some incentives from companies like Meta to push AI profiles on social media pages (and even getting "parasocial" with them), what do you think will become of the internet in a few years?

When bots steal 320p images to post for 1080p screens to peruse for fake Internet points......you know the exact brainless monkeys that set those up in complete vain.

Starting? Don't know that I agree with that. The only reason Big Brother allowed it to flourish in the first place was profit. Sure, it might have taken 10-20 years to grow into what it is now, but I feel confident that was always the intent.

What will become of it in the future? I think there's perhaps a good chance we will need to physically remove electronic devices from our lives just to survive.

I don't know that any of this "A.I." has any type of awareness, but it doesn't likely require that to create massive destruction. Programming software to bypass outside commands seems like all the tools needed to wreak havoc.

I do wonder what happens if we make a private social media app just for Ai profiles. How would they interact and function? Would they all follow each other or are they programmed to have preferences? What do their feeds look like? What would they like? Can one go out of bonds with the terms and agreements? Sounds like a cool experiment

Forums move to dark web, we all brush up on TOR, and continue our sarcastically civil intellectual discussions AWAY from all the surface shit floating on top of each other. That's the beauty of communities.

Not even the dark web will save anyone. Law enforcement has been using exploits on the TOR network to track cybercriminals and it's incredibly unsafe for reasons. This just feels like an insult to the clear web whilst at the same time restricting freedoms.

All depends on how you use it. Ford cars can kill crowds, in the right hands.

One thing I like about this site is its lack of bots. I joined tumblr and my first 2 followers were bots. The second was an AI generated anime porn bot.

That's the beauty of good ol forums vs dog-walking-reddit-mods or 4trash - big enough for the topics at hands, but too small for brainless monkeys to sick bots onto to milk total net plebs with laugable attempts at scams.

Eh, I think the level of discourse was already breaking down before AI got involved. AI is just going to make things worse.

Maybe Discord is the future. I don't like it, but maybe it's the only way for small communities to fence themselves off anymore. And we were definitely better off with smaller communities.

We already had that one guy who thought it would be clever to use AI to make a post. There will be others.

Literally EVERYTHING is better off with smaller community size, because once you introduce the plague of plebs or fangirrrrrs everything spontaneously combusts real fast.

There's a reason I'm only active here, with no other social media presence whatsoever.

Like, finally getting banned from breddit was a HUGE breath of fresh air and even got me to un-lurk on here and I've been having a blast!
I wouldn't know

But having conversations with real people in a largely unmonitored context (with regard to corporate supervision) is refreshing and a rarity in today's digital mediums.

Yep! And no dog-walking-whenever-they-feel-like, date-rapey mods who moan about having to work (whole, r/antiwork fiasco where public news did a video interview with one such mod and it ALL went straight to hell making reddit/ors look horrible). Was hilarious to watch, but at the same time I can EASILY go without shit like that happening in my community.
