Hey. so the url blocking isn't doing a very good job. Back when I had the whole Wii U blocked by MAC address, things were ok. Online couldn't work, but no stupid update prompts. At one point I decided, what happens if I keep just the URL blocking but no MAC blocking. It was ok for a little bit, but not anymore. Now it is aware of the update. The system update can't download because of the url blocking. But MarioKart has an update or something which won't install without the system update. It's being really annoying. If the MAC blocking is off, after you refuse to allow the system update, it won't even let you play the game. With the mac blocking on, it will eventually say, start anyways.

How dd the Wii U figure out there was an update? The URL block list is missing pieces. Anyway to get rid of these prompts? Do I just have to keep the MAC filtering on all the time, and let it try to update, and wait for it to fail to be able to launch my games? Nintendo has no right to mess with you trying to play games in offline mode. This is not cool.

No, it's not possible to disable the update message, so if you want the MK8 update, you need to update the whole console to 5.1.2... :( ... The Wii U knows there are an update because Nintendo says a update is available in Nintendo Network, blocking Nintendo Network it's the same than blocking all the internet, the only way could using the web exploit to change our version number of system menu and fool the Nintendo Network saying we have 5.1.2 when we are in 4.1.0 (for example).

So, reading this, I can safely update to 5.1.2, get all my updates and shizz, and not have to worry (too much)?

Precisely, I've spoken to developers about this personally and they've given me reassurances, so I took the plunge, got a LAN adapter, MK 8 works perfectly, not a single drop on online :D It would seem this is far more promising when it comes to firmware than it was on the PS3 and making it harder.

Awesome. Well, I'm going to update, because half my titles are blocked and I'd like to play some of them lol.

I will not update by some time, I want to play a little with the system using the browser exploit! (I'm pretty noob in this, but maybe in the future), so if you need something, you can tell me, I will keep in 5.0.0 ;) .

At this point I'd be shocked if there really isn't some other method that will be found eventually to exploit more current firmware Wii Us. Nintendo thought he system had no chance of getting hacked (same with the 3DS), yet both have found to have exploits. Which leads me to believe that if there is one exploit on both systems, there is probably at least another possible exploit to be found on both systems. Maybe it will take some time for a new version to be released, but I definitely can see it happening... and if it doesnt... oh well. i mean I exploited the hell out of my Wii and already the vWii, do I really need to keep doing things against Nintendo's wishes?

Update. So if you block total internet access, even remove the wireless connections, then it doesn't even try to sign into the nintendo network. If it doesn't sign into the nintendo network, you don't get the prompts to update your games. You can continue to play Mariokart 8 in offline mode. I guess we can't have partial internet access and not update. It's all or nothing. I will update eventually, but for now, since I don't really play online and don't need to buy any more games, I can live with no internet access. But obviously when the MK DLC with link comes out, I need to get that. Anyone know how long the preorder bonus offer is good for? I'm in the middle of writing my disertation so I have even less time for games then usual.
