Hacking D2B Noob question

Ok, this is a total noob question, so please bear with me. I went to the version tracker and looked up my serial and it says that I most likely have a D2B chip without cut legs. Can someone please elaborate on what that means? I have seen install pics on D2B chips where pad 3 seems intact and usable. (i.e. not having to solder to the legs) How do you know if you have to solder to the chip legs or is it just a matter of cracking open the case?

In the D2Bchipset serie you have chips with uncut legs (where all the chips' legs are normal) and you have some chips with 'cut legs' (where 3 legs have been cut in production to make modding more difficult). When you have such cut-leg-chip you have to use a dremel to open the chip to make the legs visable again, but since you say you have normal legs there is nothing to worry about.

It means you're absolutely fine. You *shouldn't* have to solder to the chip legs.

You should still do a short wire install though. Even though you could do the "quick solder" method" Wire install is easier to fix if you mess up and easier to uninstall should you ever need to.

will def. do a wire install as opposed to quick solder.

It would be fantastic to open the case and have it be a nice, easy install.

just to follow up... I installed my chip today. I did have a D2B chip with the legs (and pads) intact and installation went very smooth.
