Is it possible? o-o I have a 30GB iPod video. Bought it about 6 months ago. Would have bought a nano, but back then, they didn't have video support.

Anyway, is it possible to customize it? Like, change the user interface, get some cool programs in it, etc? I was hoping there was a way to make the interface kinda like the Zune. My friend has one, and I absolutely love it!

Just talk about iPod hacking, custom firmware, etc etc. All iPod's are valid talk.

ipod linux!

Never used it though

I've used both Rocks Box and IpodLinux and what turned me away from both was the sometimes dodgy installers and also the mp3 playback was annoying to get setup.
I found the ipods original firmware great for just playing music.
You can multi boot your ipod and have all 3 installed.
Also the fact that neither supported my headphones ability to remotely control the ipod. Something to do with the drivers for the serial port it used not being coded.

hahaha, fair enough. but how many iphone users have theirs jailbroken?
at least some of his points are valid though

mainly i'm inclined to agree with him because i'm an ipod hater.

i'm not really up to dat in the phone scene, is it easy to jailbreak them?

I also meant changing it graphically, such as adding themes and stuff like that.

I'm pretty interested in RockBox, so I think I'll check it out. Also, I'm trying to find some good themes for my iPod. You guys got any?

What does jailbreak mean anyway? For iPods, of course. Don't be a smartass >__>;

lol, i think it means hacking them to enable the running of homebrew, using other mobile plans (?) other features etc.

i think

Ah, I like the Zune interface also. I think it was the Zune 2 I was playing with at the store... it controlled much like a laptop's touchpad.

But, alas, I bought an iPod Touch because it has WiFi web-browsing. (and jailbreak'd apps and apple can't force an update... unlike the iPhones)

Wow... I feel like an idiot.

I loaded up a custom firmware that made the video look like the iPod classic, and I used iPod Wizard. As soon as I boot up my iPod, it tells me I have to restore it.

7Gb's of music down the drain.

No, I don't actually. About 4Gbs of the music where from my old computer, and about 3Gbs where from downloaded CD's that I've deleted by now.

Yeah, I'm never f**king with Apple products ever again.

Waiiitt don't restore yet! **hopes Al didn't restore**

Before I had my Touch, I used an iPod photo. I hated iTunes (still do, but use it for video syncing) so I used ephPod. It allows you to access music to, and from, your iPod without iTunes and syncing.

i hate itunes more than ipods because ipods have a reasonable gui and design.

biggest problem for me is the propriety transfer mechanism, and itunes gui.
