For some users, for example those who attempt to downgrade and end up with FrankenFirmware, a CN/OOT cart is the only way to enter HBL in order to re-run sysupdater and get to 9.2. Buying one of these expensive games is not cost-effective considering that once it has been used to re-enter HBL and complete the downgrade, it will potentially never be needed again (since the HB Launcher Loader CIA can be used, not to mention browserhax and menuhax from 9.2).

What I am proposing is a Cubic Ninja / OOT loan scheme in which members loan out their carts to other users to enable them to re-enter HBL, complete the downgrade and install another entrypoint before returning the cart.

I'm not entirely sure how this would work as trust would be an issue. What guarantee does the owner of the cart have that the borrower would return it? What I am suggesting is that the borrower pays the lender a deposit via PayPal. This would be enough to cover the cost of replacing the cart should the borrower fail to return it. Once the cart is returned and safely received by the lender, the deposit is refunded.

If any other users think this is a helpful idea, feel free to reply here and I'll compile a list of lenders in this post.

It is a nice idea, but I think the deposit system will not work. It is a lot of money that people should put into deposit in the first place (if you really want to make sure it is enough to get another copy of CN/OOT).
I don't have a better idea for the system, but I hope someone comes up with something.

I agree that it's not ideal, but it's better than the user having to invest in the cost of the CN/OOT cart and never get that back even though they might never use it again. I can't think of a better solution, but of course any user who wants to lend out their cart is free to come to any agreement they want with the borrower. Personally I would not let my CN out of my house without a guarantee a replacement will be paid for if I don't get it back. Nonetheless, it's not doing any good in my games case right now, so if someone wants to PP me the deposit I would be happy to lend it out.

Sure you mean lending as letting him use it on the spot yeah ? :)
It's up to you how you choose to arrange it with the person who borrows it :)

It's an interesting Idea, but being the cynic I am I think the deposit introduces even bigger trust issues. How much is the deposit? If less than you can currently buy the game for than it becomes beneficial to just give the person the deposit and keep the game. If it's more (or even the same amount) than the going rate how can the person trust the lender with that much money.

Well, the deposit is no different in that respect to a private sale. Somebody may choose to advertise a CN/OOT cart, and once the buyer has paid refuse to send it.

Just as you wouldn't enter into a sale agreement with somebody you didn't have some faith in, you also should not pay a deposit to someone you don't feel you can trust. I suppose it's up to the individual to decide based on the lender's track record on the forum whether they are to be considered trustworthy, but as with anything in life nothing is guaranteed.

Maybe you should include flashcards too, I have a 1.0.0 3ds that I want to hack but I need a flashcard for it

a first gen sky3ds will work as cubic ninja replacement

It'd be nice if the Chinese would clone the red button Sky3DS and sell it for $20 US or less for purposes like this. It may be worthless to most people who are looking to pirate the latest stuff, but for homebrew, it'd be handy.

sounds like a bad idea
instead of making a deposit , i suggest people buy a sky3ds(the old red button is very cheap)
if not they can buy the new one , use it to omplete their hacks and sell it in trade section XD
also for those that can't affrod to buy a sky , they can always ask in the forums for members that live near their location and take their console to complete their downgrade

Not sure how this works in other countries, but in Canada we have a contract law that basically says that if you form an agreement (or contract) with someone, they are legally required to fulfill that contract or they can get in to serious legal trouble, which if I remember correctly is a lot more than just repaying them the amount for the cart. (And a PM on GBATemp actually counts as a legal contract).

TL;DR feel free to loan your carts all you want. If some dick doesn't return it, sue them.

how is your solution any different then what the op has in mind? i would never post my cubic ninja to someone, they are free to use it if they visit me and do it to complete the hack and then give me back the game.

it's dofferent , mine involve the person in problem need to go the to the owner home/meeting/rendez-vous , while the op states to send the game for some deposit

well no, i got added to the list but i wont post my game ;) they'll have to come to me in person and do the hack on spot
