When I used Winrar on a RAR file, containing a virtual console game, to extract it to my SD card, I get told that my file is corrupted. Should I give up?

If winrar won't extract it and gives an error, try extracting with another archive program. Chances are, though, the file is corrupted with nothing you can really do about it.

I just might have a chance to uncorrupt it with a program. Unfortunately the program comes with a lot of adware that has to be removed with two other programs. Luckily, the two programs are clean, so wish me luck.

it's a little old message now, but maybe it can help other users.

you can't "uncorrupt" a file.
but you can use latest version of winrar 5.x instead of old version, it might fix your problem.
files compressed with newest version of winrar can't be extracted with old algorithm version.

just use 7zip, it's free and adware free.

That's not how it works, there's no recovery data built in to the archive so there's no way to recover missing data.

Try extracting it somewhere else other than the SD and see if it's still corrupted to rule out a bad SD.
But likely it's just a corrupted archive.
