i have some CIA file that i'd like to run with my gateway, so i was wondering if there was a way to convert them back into 3DS file and if so how

u need xorpad to convert back....
which u need the .3ds at the first place in order to get ncch then get xorpad.....

The cia to 3ds conversion feature of that converter doesn't really work though.
It depends on what you want to convert. The cia must be decrypted, as well, so you're quite limited on what you can convert.

You can find a lot of .3DS files on that iso site, anyway.

Would that apply to undub games as well? Like if i have a undub of a europe region game in .cia format could i get an original .3ds europe version of it to get the ncch and xorpad then i can convert the .cia undub into a .3ds undub?

do i need anything else installed other than python 2.7? it says i'm missing msvcr71.dll
google the missing .dll file, download the latest version of it, place it in the same directory as the converter, then you should be good to go.

Don't try it. It won't work.
If there's a CIA of an undub version, you can be sure that it came originally from a .3ds file. So it's easier to just try to find the original.

Question. What's an undub rom?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

now i get a "could not read exheader file" error
Like I said, most cias won't convert. But you can find them in .3DS format on that iso site, though.

For example a game released in US but with japanese voices. Since many people like japanese dubs more than english ones, there's cases in which you use the english version and just use the japanese voices from the japanese version. So it's a mix of the two.

Thanks for that! :)

well sorry if now i'm going a little offtopic but both of the .cia game i installed don't work

the first one get stuck at the NINTENDO 3DS screen, the second looks like it's booting up and then give an error... are CIA game region locked? one of them (the one that get stuck) is a japanese game

Unless they're made to be region free, they are region locked. GW for example is RF and so it can handle region locked CIAs. But most CFWs (with the exception of rxTools with O3DS) don't have region free built-in.
If they're built in a wrong way, that can also make them not be able to start or to freeze at the start. So it's not always about RF.

i am using a gateway

anyway the other game is apparently U and i'm on a E console, guess that explains why both of them don't work, what a pain in the ass

If you're using GW, you can play CIAs reagardless of them being RF or not. One thing I noticed some time ago though is that if you patch a CIA to be RF and then try to play it with GW, sometimes it freezes at the start. So it might be that.
