You guys think console sales go up when a system like 3ds gets cracked? I know I'm thinking of buying a second 3da while u can still find 2012 models retail in case mine ever breaks.

That's probably bad for the Nintendo yeah? I would guess the console sales have the lower Profit margin. I hope Nintendo can make it to the next console gen! It will be a sad day if they go the way of Sega.

They sure will, they have MORE and I mean MORE then enough money to make losses for the coming years. And look at the current sales HOLY SHIT HIT THE FAN!

The correlation between the sales of a given system and its "hackability" is negligable at best. Just to throw in an example, according to Team Twiizers the Homebrew Channel reached approximately 3.1 million unique online installations as of February 2012 which accounted for only 3.4% of Wii's worldwide. Don't expect a massive jump in sales just because the system is "hacked" because it won't happen - the great majority of users do not buy a system explicitly to hack it.

I do, the only reason I have a 3DS and xbox 360 is because they were gifts. Every other system I own is modded in some way. Wiis and the DS were selling out and printing money long before exploits were discovered for them.

Uhhh... someone of Nintendo's accountancy. Source???

big N poor? sigh the sold 4 million copys in the first 2 days that would be 200 million bucks ...

4 mio in 2 days of WHAT?

Oh yes... THAT'S 100% true!

In the past, weak selling systems like the N64 or the Gamecube were always catched up by strong Handheld sales (GB, GBC, GBA). The Wii and the NDS were both topseller. Thats the only reason why Ninty could take the massive pirating problem that hit both platforms.

The Wii U dosen't really sell well... just look how much games were released until now. And compare the game releases of the NDS with the 3DS... uhh... that really hurts. Could be the last round for Ninty. :(

I'm almost sure that they'll continue developing handheld devices because they usually sold well.

So what you're saying is that in the past, the Nintendo 64's poor performance worldwide was balanced out by the spectacular sales of the Game Boy and the Game Boy Colour, the poor performance of the Gamecube was balanced out by the spectacular sales of the Game Boy Advance...

...and the poor performance of the Wii U somehow isn't balanced out by the spectacular sales of the 3DS? Last round for Nintendo?

No. Nintendo sleeps on dough. The Wii and NDS generation was an exception from the rule - last time they enjoyed such a rainbow of money was in the days of the Super Nintendo. They're very much prepared for the Wii U's difficulties on the market.

Yes, maybe... but only because there was no way to pirate it. What if the 3DS were hacked 1 year ago and Flashcards would have costed around 30-40$?

And Pokemon is this one special case... Ninty can't life from it alone.

Not if the 3DS get's completely hacked and pirating gets easy and cheap for everyone.

Maybe, but they will shrink... and who will then develope games for there platforms? Mario, Zelda and Pokemon can't save Ninty alone. Smartphones are also such a big problem...

It's as if everyone conveniently forgot that Nintendo gets money from licensing. Yep, Nintendo gets paid for each and every game you buy for their systems, nothing out of the ordinary. Not only that,t here's hardware sales you have to consider as well. Games are not Nintendo's only source of profit, so let's not pretend they are. ;)

Please don't be ridiculous. The Nintendo DS was incredibly easy to pirate games on and guess what? Nintendo made buttloads of money anyways. Read up a bit on the subject.

Smartphones are not a big problem because they cater to a completely different audience. Sales won't shrink because the great majority of pirates wouldn't buy the game anyways, that's why they pirate it.

Ninty only gets money from licensing IF... companys decide to develope games for there systems AND IF people are actually BUYING them.

thats why ninty has to come with something new so no 2ds's, 3dsi's (xl) and 2dsi's

And what the hell should that be???? I really don't know... mess with MS and Sony? With Companys who are loosing money with every sold Next-Gen-System for about 2 years until the make profit? Ninty can't afford that.

What do you think, should they throw into the ring?

*sigh* eve heard of being innovative and creative? thts the nintendo we all know "and love"

anyway this is my own opinion like the other post

Yep, and that what Ninty is doing. Or trying. Releasing a hightech monster like the Vita isn't the way. The Vita itself isn't a big success. What else should they do? Touchscreens, Microphones, 1 display, 2 dislpays, holding them vertically/horizontal, 2d, 3d, blowing/yelling at the screen...

Even Nintendo can't do magic.

i remember when i bought my phat ds the year it came out. i bought it because i saw a article, with pictures, saying that the nintendo ds slot one used normal sd cards.
so i bought one thing thinking that i could just copy roms to a sd card i owned and simple plug it into the ds.
even if that was not true it has still been one of the best hand held console i have had and i have had all portables except for the sega GG and nomad(portable genesis)

so yes hacking the nintendo ds (original) was one of the reasons i bought it, but not the main reason. former nintendo fan boy, but now it just if you make a game i would like I'll get the console for it. i mean i bought my ps3 for when Persona 5 eventually comes out, a year after the ps3 launch and i am still waiting for the game
