Hacking Question Console nags me to update controllers?

So I updated using ChoiDujourNX from 5.1.0 to 7.0.1 recently and everything works fine and I haven't burned any of the fuses from 5.1.0, yet everytime the console is woken up from sleep mode it says that the controllers need updated? With the option of Later and Update. Is it safe to do this update or would it backfire if ever trying to downgrade back to 5.1.0 in the future? (in terms of the controllers not functioning on an older firmware version)

It'll probably always be the case, right? I mean if you bring your controller to a friend's, it updates there and they'd be bricked for you, that is probably illegal since you aren't forced to update your console.

Safe to update as long you don't hardmod your joycon.

I can't tell you what will happen in the future. It wouldn't be illegal for Nintendo to such a thing, not even a little bit, but it would make for a bad user experience.

Thanks guys makes sense. I'll just update them then since I don't have a modded joycon.
