when you say it crashes what exactly do you mean? does the menu come up asking you to load the cIOS installer? if it does load what all happens before it crashes?
also, you could try creating the folder on your SD card for a off network installation. I heard some network issues caused problems. Also make sure you dont have any gamecube memory cards plugged in or usb drives.
