Hacking CIA download error

I've found quite a surplus of explanations and solutions for this, problem is, they are all for versions earlier then 11.2, which I have.
Please help a simple noob like me ;-;

I downloaded a clean file of Fire Emblem Fates and extracted all four files into one CIA file. I downloaded another CIA incase the one I originally got was damaged but got the same result.
My SD cards are fine, I used a second one (With the same setup) and got, wow, the same results.
When I put it on the SD card and try to use FBI to install it, this annoying message comes up

Failed to install CIA file
Result code: 0xD8E086A
Level: Permanent (27)
Summary: Invalid argument (7)
Module: AM (32)
Desc: Cert signature or hash check failed (106)

Being the noob I am, I have no idea were to start to fix this. I have safehax, fasthax and dycrypt9 on the SD in a addition to the normal homebrew setup and I have a couple 3DS themes on there (I doubt that would effect it but still)
If anyone could explain what to do in steps I would be forever greatful, I'm probably am dumb but I get confused if its not explained clearly enough.

What setup do you have? If you are using safehax with cfw then don't and install a proper hack with 3ds.guide

You can NOT install non-legit CIA's without CFW. Even if the CIA was from a game cart you dumped yourself it does not make it into a "legit" CIA. Follow the guide, and if you run into trouble please ask here. Do not attempt something on your own and then come here to complain that you've bricked as is the trend these days.

AH, I think I see my issue, I was a dumbass and forgot to complete setting up CFW. I'll probably be able to do it after I finish the guild. I need to get Luma3DS and all that crap I suppose

Well what you did so far would let you install custom themes and legit CIA's with FBI .. Plus use apps like JKSM for save extraction and such. Simple Homebrew stuff .. and that's enough for some. But if you want to do more than that .. to install games, you must get CFW yes. And to get CFW, you must install A9LH. But really it's very simple - just follow the guide very carefully and word to word and you'll be fine.

Also, once you have a9lh + Luma, use freeShop to get games instead of downloading off the Web and installing them. Then there's no risk of getting a bad file.

just wondering, does freeshop still work? i cannot seem to find too many working .cias so it just seems really useful.

FreeShop doesn't work anymore as of 10 august 2018
