
I suggest that he grabs a 6570, which like I said, costs the same and out performs the 440.That's because the Radeon HD 4870 was a flagship card. In it's generation, it was only succeeded by the HD 4870X2 and later the HD 4890. Huge difference compared to a bottom-of-the-range card like the GT 610.
The HD 4870 is roughly as strong as the 5770 and 6750. I don't know how it compares to the HD 7 range.
And you can pick up a GT 440 for around $50, which is fairly superior to the GT 610. There are also better Radeon cards, but I lose track with all the different model numbers.
