This is such a strange problem. I've searched online multiple times, but can't find anything.

When I try to rip my UMDs over USB, the UMD will stop spinning. The transfer just sits, and nothing happens. Nothing is frozen.. The UMD just stops. It isn't the USB cable. I can put things on my PSP just as normal. UMDs play without problem. I've ripped UMDs before, with this same PSP on the same CFW version, with the same USB cable. The only thing that has changed is now I have a PC with Vista.

I'm using 5.00 m33-6 with a sony usb cable and Vista Home Premium SP1.

try this,

go to properties and then compatability,
then check the box that says Run this program in compatability mode for:
and the drop down box should be on windows XP (service pack 2).

also check the box that says run this program as an administrator.

hopefully this could fix your problem I find it's fixed alot of my problems

I'm not using any program to rip them. I'm just dragging the ISO onto my desktop. So compatibility mode is out. I hadn't thought to try XP, but I don't really have an XP computer handy.

You can always try UMD Dumper 0.3.0 if you can't rip it to your computer. UMD Dumper takes maybe 15 minutes to an hour to dump ISOs depending on game size and can compress them into CSOs at level 9 compression rate.

If you use the above and your UMD stops spinning again, you'll know it's your PSP instead of your computer.
