Can Notepad++ edit a .dll?

Can I use Notepad++ to edit the script (or whatever it is) that's in a .dll? I want to do this so that I can have a second installation of Terraria that won't connect to steam. This will allow my brother and I to play lan multiplayer. (Seeing as only I have a copy of the game, and I just share my copy with him.)

Nope; Still not legal. I would then be using someone else's license. Here is an example:
You can't download the ROM of a ds game you own because you own it. The physical cartridge is your copy, not some ROM you downloaded from a website; a downloaded ROM would be someone else's license, making it illegal for you to use. If you ripped a ROM from your physical copy, you can do anything you want with it as long as you don't give it to someone else or make illegal copies.

As for what I'm trying to do; I'm trying to make the game initialize without needing to verify that Steam is running.

Still a legal copy, so I can do this with it.

Removing DRM from a game is equally illegal. You cannot do what you want without breaking some law.

You need a hex editor to modify binaries/libraries. I do prefer freeware HxD, but you can choose another one - there're a lot of alternatives.

That would just be piracy with extra steps.
Even if your plan worked, your brother probably still wouldn't be able to connect to you without a legitimate copy anyway. (maybe it works through LAN though)

Try searching for Goldberg Emulator. Maybe you can find a magic steam dll that allows you to do what you want.

I never said it was, that depends on the laws where you are (probably USA).
What I said was, nothing to worry about. As in, there will be no consequences.

Notepad++ did have a hex editor option at one point, though it was basic and you had to select it. If you edited it in the normal viewer you risk it interpreting a "character" differently or ignoring it entirely and then saving it out.

and by running two copies at once for a LAN game you would be in breach of your user agreement and/or copyright. This is the exact same problem (breach of the copyright to generate a new copy of a work you don't own the rights to). This was mentioned in the last thread you made on the matter as well.
While I have not yet heard of anybody getting pinged for that in a game then a lot of even very small businesses hire a person whose sole full time job is to make sure they don't do that for their Windows server or business software licenses, and businesses get fines (big boy ones at that) and dragged into court every day for this one.

I might as well spend take out my 20 dollars and buy my brother a copy of the game.
