I'm thinking of getting a PS3, but I had a couple of questions to ask:

    1. Can you update the PS3's firmware without getting on PSN? (I think with the 360 you could burn a DVD to update it)

    2. Can you somehow patch PS3 games without PSN access? (For instance I buy a new game but it needs to be patched to work right)

I'm asking cuz I don't currently have a way to get a PS3 online so it would really make or break the purchase.

Thanks a bunch guys for any help.

    1. You can install updates via USB.
    2. No. Not to my knowledge anyway.

another possibility is take your PS3 to a friends place (or to anywhere that has an ethernet port or wifi i guess?) and do the updates...
