I've been interested in getting a couple of Amiibos but I'm a bit wary of buying them online due to the whole quality issues. I've had a look round in a few stores to see them in person but I couldn't tell if they were good quality or not.
Anyone got any advice to avoid getting ripped off?

Buy in person. With online retailers you never know what you're getting and should it be a bad quality amiibo, sending it back may be a hassle / cost you. In my opinion that's not worth over a £1-2 savings per amiibo.

Just yesterday I checked out various retailers and the amiibo differ greatly. I even saw a Link with brown hair. Yes, brown.

In average they should all be the same but it depends on the paint job and such from whom it was done by.

Any way to tell if the amiibo is of good quality? I can't really bring a picture of one in store and compare them.

As long as the paint job and figures overall look good to you that's what counts as its quality.

Shink has good reasoning behind it and you can choose the best one of 'em all on a store by yourself rather than online which is picked randomly.

This. I don't think there's any "standard" or reference for amiibo, except perhaps marketing material for which Nintendo obviously would choose the best looking amiibo.

At the end of the day, they're toys, so there's bound to be a few mistakes in production such as an incomplete/varied paint job or differences in the plastic mould. Pick the ones you deem good in overall quality and don't settle for less. Ask the retailer if they have more of a particular amiibo. I went to GameStop and they had just one Donkey Kong amiibo on display, which had its eyes looking a little weird, so I asked if they had more and the guy went to the back to bring me 5 different DKs to choose from. They all had a flaw somewhere, so I picked the best looking one. There's no shame in doing so and because amiibo aren't very expensive, this is the level of overall quality we can expect.

Anyone from here bought one and could take close-up photos of it to see the paint job?

For £10 or so I guess I can't expect too much.

I was at GAME today and checked out a few Amiibos (Mario, Samus, Peach) and you know what? They looked great but in terms of size, they were smaller than I expected. Peach looked really nice even though the face change and you can't see the "Dark Pit" that the E3 version had.

So I take that back, I will buy Amiibos but only if Nintendo makes a Collector's Edition with all of them as I can't be bothered to buy one at a time nor am I that hooked up on it go snatch 'em all now.

Amiibo's the Skylanders of Nintendo and sure as hell Nintendo's gonna try to make as much profit as possible since parents, collectors and gamers are all interested on it. While at it there was a lady (probably a mother) who bought a good chunk of Skylanders and in total she paid £100+ for it.

Dat money maker...

Yea you right there, fallout 76 was a letdown, but it not that bad now, they have fixed slot of issues they had at launch. Biggest issue with Fallout 76 is its a pay to advance further type of game, which sucks
