Hardware Buying a laptop

My mom and I agreed that I can get a laptop for school. It has to be around the price of my moms laptop (which is somewhere between $800-1000). I also like it to be something that I can enjoy when I'm not working and have enough space for personal files. Can I get suggestions? Thanks.

If you want something compact go for the M1330 (use the filter on the side and you can get it to have a 320GB HDD), or if you want something a lil bit more powerful and with a dedicated graphics card you could go for the M1530. The M1330 is an awesome, sexeh lil machine and the M1530 is its big brother.

A laptop called Studio 15 also popped up on the list whilst I was playing around and it looks like it has some nice hardware in it, although I've not looked too much into it.

I recommend: Dell XPS M1530, if the screens too big,
theres a smaller one: M1330. Sister has a M1330, its not to bad.
But, in my experience, Dell has failed on me. 1 Desktop ordered, is suppose to arrive in my door in a week, took a month to come. Not even overseas either.
