I can't think of why it wouldn't be possible to install WADs from DVD.

SD or DVD, the process is still basicallly unpacking the WAD to system memory.

I think what we need is a way to install wads onto a dvd and run the dvd in the wii so it can play games off the dvd., not use the dvd to install wads... just buy another sd card, they are cheap,
Launchig VC and Wiiware off the dvd would solve the space issue the wii is plagued with! imagine a dvd where you can have all 5 strong bad episodes and a launcher that would read the dvd and let you select the game you want to play like the gamecube multigame launcher.

is this possible for VC and WiiWare?

Nope. The wad is just a container that has the files it's not executable.

Uhm, btw, someone knows what happend to 0rangechicken.com? yesterday the site was down, and now the wad´s arent linked. wooot happend, some1 got a plan?

emulators all have code to read roms from dvd
reading a wad file from dvd is similar, you have to parse the directory structure to look for files and directory

everything relies o the DVD_read function from libDI

see here:
http://code.google.com/p/snes9x-gx/source/...rce/ngc/dvd.cpp
you will have to understand the code first but it's rather easy

all you have to is to replace fopen/fread function from WAD manager with a new function set based on getpvd , ParseDVDdirectory and LoadDVDFileOffset

I would love to install wads from a network too. Like playing games over wifi with SNES GX is great. I don't have to move my sd card around, and I can hold as many games as my computer allows :3

what i mean is install wiiware and vc channels that you can read them off a dvd not install them off a dvd... that to me is pointless.
i would want to launch games off a dvd, like to have all 5 strongbad episodes on one disk and go to a launcher and get like a menue asking me which one i want to play,... then i would click and it would play right off of the dvd...

that's what i mean...

For what it is worth I have been toying with the WAD and disc form of wii chess over the last few days. After unpacking both there are differences but nothing outrageous and nothing beyond what I would expect.

So it will not be all that simple but it looks quite possible.

On the other hand packing them into super smash brothers was floated as an idea.

I don't think SSBB would work, because you would have to write something into the game to play the WADs, unless you do VC. I'm going to say no-go for WiiWare.

all we need is to have a launcher that will launch wiiware and vc games off a dvd thats all.
this way you would not need to bother installing wads and deleting to make room for other games...
SUCH a WASTE of time reinstalling... NINTENDO wtf were you guys thinking 512mb!!!!
on a console that is supposed to have plenty to download to... SERIOUSLY...
and whatever happened to "we want our customers to be surprised when the light goes off on their wii...." well... that does not happen often!

interesting.

could be possible to do it sort of like the multigame GC iso's. like, load the game (recognised as GC or Wii or whatever) then it brings up a list of the wads.

dont now about saves etc though but i figure it'd work seein as though emulators run from dvd's/ USB and manage to save (i think they save anyways, never actually tried dvd emulation lol)

thing is you'd need alot of WADs to fill up a dvd without waste lol

@mikeyt1998 the WAD and disc version are similar enough that my reckoning was that you can swap them, I was then planning to couple it with Dack's new multigame Wii stuff.

I have all USA VC games from the shop channel .. it takes up 4.13 GB , thats with out Wiiware ...if you need help liet me know

ah sweet, i take it it should be possible with a bit of effort then

then theres just the matter of finding out if all wads would load similarly or not.
