Today I was told that I had to replace the mainboard for about 125$. I declined the offer and was not charged anything at all. I was not offered to sell the machine to the shop nor was I pressured into replacing the mainboard either so I have got no reason to doubt the diagnosis.

Is there anything else I can do but selling it for spare parts at this point?
If they go for replacing mainboard, it pretty much mean it is a full brick. I suppose you can go online and hunt used a mainboard for cheaper price.
 
Try recovery menu... if you can boot into it, it's caused by bluetooth module... That's what I would have done if I were you...

You need a taken apart gc controller for this test...
