Hacking bricked AceKard 2i after bootloader update

I received 2 cards from DX.

chip id:b8cd16be hw:8181
chip id: 0fc2 hw:8181

the first flashed fine
the second (0fc2) hangs at "Progress 0%..."

both cards are labeled identically and the boxes are also the same with identical markings.


any ideas?

I could be wrong, but it is possible the 0fc2 might not actually be a genuine acekard underneath, and thus why it isn't flashing properly.

I really don't know what else to say, and I hope that's not the case for you.

But if it is, there isn't much you can do, short of trying to get it replaced.

I've emailed DealExtreme asking them for a replacement, so hopefully in a month I'll get a new one *rolls eyes*

I've got 2 cards from DX at the same time, both say:

I update one without any problem and the other is stuck at 0%.

Now let's try to guess what the problem is....

Along with my unflashable card, we had 2 other from a friend that is 3 unflashable cards.

Then the friend had an idea: as some R4 are basically clones of Acekard, let's try their software.

We were able to update all 3 Acekards with R4 software !
Those 3 cards have now been tested in a DSL and a 1.4 DSi and they work !

I don't think AK-AIO 1.5 works on clones and it works fine on mine.

Confirmed working with the R4i FW Update and am running 'official' AKAIO 1.5.1. My AU$14.46 is looking like a reasonable enough purchase again.

Not correct.
You put the R4i FW DSi file on the AK2i clone, then run the AK2i in a DSL/Phat to update it. Its as simple as that.

For what I understand this so-called firmware update just modifies the ID of the cards: instead of presenting itself to the system as Acekard (or whatever for the R4) the update make the cards fake report as a legit game. I guess it's just overwriting a few bytes and those bytes are the same for R4 and Acekard.
Ragrading the cards being clones or not: I don't understand why (if the cards were clones) I got from the ame order/same batch a clone and a legit card...
AKIO 1.5 worked fine and 1.5.1 works fine too on all the cards.

Must admit I'm a bit perplexed by it too, given mine runs AKAIO 1.5.1 without any issues whatsoever, despite claims that it won't run on clones/fakes.
That said, I'm just happy it works on my DSi now

Used the R4 firmware update on a cloned AK2, works like the original and is compatible with mine DSi 1.4.
I think someone must make a new topic with this info, cloned AK2i are identical to the original, I was in a panic when at the 10th-15th try the 0% were still there.

Did someone compare official DSL update file with update file for fake r4i and ak2i?

DL both and they looks almost the same... (size, files inside nds file and their "codes" are same)

This worked for me also. I ordered 5 acekard 2i's (at the same time, in the same order) from DX. All 5 arrived in the same envelope. 4 of the 5 updated with the normal acekard 1.4 update without issue. 1 of the 5 would not go past 0%. Updating that 1 out of 5 with the r4i fw update worked.

i did this update but my dsi is not on me..it seemed to update like 10 times as fast as the ak2i update. is that normal? cant tell if my icon has changed until i get my dsi back.
