About 5 years ago I had just installed CFW for the first time onto my n3ds xl and was enjoying all the new games that inevitably came with it. My brother asked me to install CFW on his o3ds so that he could emulate some old GBA games. Long story short I had accidentally loaded the backup for my n3ds xl into his o3ds and deleted the original 3ds folder for his o3ds and proceeded with the installation of arm9 for my n3ds xl onto the o3ds and now the o3ds will not turn on. You can press the power button and the light will turn on, but the screen will not turn on. The only thing I can think of that might work off the top of my head is the find all of the original files for any stock o3ds online and basically reprogram the BIOS on the motherboard to force it to boot, but I have no idea how to do that. I do not have the files such has the 3ds folder or dcim or anything for the sd card that was in the 3ds and so far I have been unable to find them online. Please help me.

I had not completed the installation of CFW as your guide states it must have already been installed. I'm not even positive whether or not it did complete as the system has been black screened for so long I've never been able to check.

..Do you have a nand backup of that system from when it was done or no?

Hold start as you power on.
See if you arrive at GodMode9

What exactly did you do here? Are you just talking about folders on the SD card, or were you messing with NAND backups? (If you were messing with NAND backups, then why did you do that!?) Did you delete with the "3ds" folder, or the "Nintendo 3DS" folder? IF YOU WANT HELP, BE AS PRECISE AS POSSIBLE.

If all else fails, an ntrboot flashcart can recover from some "bricks".

If you restored a NAND backup, you likely have B9S installed. What happens if you power on the system while holding Select? Start? Do you have a boot.firm on the root of your SD card? What happens if you download GodMode9 and put the boot.firm onto your SD card before booting the 3DS?

I attempted ntrbooting with a flashcart and that's worked for me. took a long time to get the 3ds to load the cart, but i did get it in the end. for anyone reading in the future, no i do not know if godmode9 or boot9strap or arm9loader had fully and completely installed, i had begun the installation with the wrong files, cancelled and rebooted, then found the device soft-bricked.
Using an R4i SDHC 3DS RTS flashcart I was able to boot and install LumaCFW, Boot9Strap, and GodMode9 which allowed me to pull up the LumaCFW Home menu and install FBI which made everything easy as pie from there. Thanks all!
