Hello everyone , i have a new 3ds xl with dual ips , cfw luma with latest OS and b9s .

I have a problem my bottom screen flicker sometime and to fix it i need to open and close folder or apps 5-8 times so the flicker stop, i dont know how it happened but it wasnt there at first when i got the n3ds .

What iv seen is it happening mostly after a reboot or apps crash , and an error have occured system will reboot .

First i was thinking it is ribbon cable not giving enough power to the bottom screen because it is connected uncorrectly then i was thinking about either a CFW errors or some badass insect inside my console( i know it silly but iv seen it many times they love heat)maybe the battery is to blame but top screen is unafected.

Now idk what or why it is happening at least i got a temp fix but i would really love any input of what the problem may or may not be thanks in advance!

this happens on my new3DS too but top screen, my wya to solve is turning off and turn on a time later, but have a time this don't happens ...
maybe opening and re conectinh the cables could fix but I don't want to try it now, maybe when I get courage to order and replace the slide pad ...

Well it must be a defect with ribbon but are you cfw too?

yes, firt time it happened with me I just had installed the old times cfw (emunand stuff)
I think it's not a cfw issue, because probably the guy sold it because of that, since t happens times to times
It was not so long bougth in USA with a Sky3DS, no cfw, but I hacked soon I got it lol

  • Does your bottom screen flickers with the New 3DS XL's wifi turned off?
  • When it starts flickering, what happens when you put it to sleep mode and open it right back up? Does it goes straight to flickering again?
  • Does this happen on a brightness setting lower than level 5?
  • What about when the N3DSXL is connected to your AC charger?
  • Do you live close to an electric power station?
  • In Luma3DS v9.0 configuration, did you select (x) Disabled ARM11 exception handlers ?
What's very worrying about flickering (for the bottom screen) is this usually indicates unsteady power delivery either due to external influence or internal hardware failure.

One of the sucky things about LCD screens is that they can be affected by electromagnetic interference if they're not properly shielded. Continual fluctuation like that can kill your N3DSXL from accumulated damage.

If EM radiation is not root cause or if your bottom LCD is not faulty, the other possibilities can be anything from GPU or poor voltage & current regulation [fuses].

If you hacked your N3DSXL and made that NAND image backup, you should first dump your current SysNAND image, restore the 3DS to the original state, and check if the issue appears again. This is to try figuring out if it's software based; you go back to restoring your current setup after checking.

My nand is long gone , anyway i think it is close to voltage ofc my battery is very old and my 3ds is mostly always powered on .

The flicker dont happen when im under 3 lvl brightness well i dont see it flashing , yes i disabled exeption handler since it made a crash log and needed to reboot everytime i launched a homebrew.

When i put it to sleeps it dosnt change anything that i can see , what i can tell you is this is not happening very often but it is still there , opening closing folders fix it after 6-8 opening of folders , so i really think that is a battery voltage problem ...

For now it is ok i rebooted it 10 time to see if it would flick but nothing happen it is very fast flickering when it does and slow as i said with my stupid folders trick lol.

Wifi is turned on but i dont think it is the cause since it happened without it.

Im close to nothing electric powered except for my own devices.

(x) Disabled ARM11 exception handlers

or

( ) Disabled ARM11 exception handlers

??

If you have it as (x), go back and unselect it to ( ).
The problem now is that the flicker is very rare and randomly so i cannot find a way to make it flickers i will wait until it happen and personally tell you what happen but as far as i know it was still doing this with disabled handlers off in the past , or is it possible that it is a battery issues since my battery cant last 2 hours?

Is that 2 hours of battery life during little to no load, when playing games, or general average observation? The moment you definitely retire it is when the power instantly cuts out near empty (no blicking red light warning).

So the flickering doesn't happen when your 3DS is connected to its charger cable?

Do you have any fellow (old or new) 3DS XL buddies that'll let you borrow their battery? While your battery isn't dead yet, your flickering could be caused by under voltage. The battery may not be providing enough voltage to keep all of your N3DSXL running, so the first to give is that bottom lcd.
