I played this on a real SNES as a kid and I didn't even knew what a bootleg was at that time. I simply accepted what was in front of me. I didn't had prolonged experiences with Sonic beforehand either so this meant Sonic for me for a while.

This one was in an arcade machine. Of course, at the time I believed it was an official product too. Come to think of it, I think Nintendo missed an opportunity not making an official pikachu platformer.

EDIT: I realize now that I'm in the Smartphones, Tablets & Handhelds section

It was common to locate bootleg games in Brazil. One notorious example is Sonic 4, which is essentially a re-skin of Speedy Gonzales featuring Mario and Sonic. The group that created it, Twin Eagles Group, were originated in Peru and were known for taking pre-existing games and turning them into something completely different. Examples of their work include Chester Cheetah as Bananas in Pyjamas and the Blues Brothers as the Men in Black.

A few years prior, a different game called Mundial Ronaldinho Soccer 64, which was just another re-skin but this time of International Superstar Soccer 64, went viral and turned into a meme format due to its amusing title screen voice-over.

The game was made from the ground-up based on their own platformer engine, it got re-used in many other games. It's also funny how it has copy protection so that other bootleggers won't profit off their work. I've only heard of this game from JonTron's video if you have seen it already.

I don't ever think this was an arcade game, but if it is, let me know with the source/s provided.

It's really just a SNES game as I came to learn, I the one I played at the time must have been emulation inside an arcade cabinet. I remember playing All-Stars SMB2 there for the first time too, probably was the same machine.

Thanks for your post, it was quite informative.

That's what I'm kind of guessing with that. Mainly a JAMMA arcade board (like a Pandoras Box) with a set of ROMs loaded.

There are also lots of Mario bootleg Android games, like super bino go...

And leps world...

And even one with Chavo

They're all the same games with a different title and a slight change in graphics. The people who made it didn't care about copyright infringement.

The bootleger probably didnt know about Johnny test at all when making that. Either that or the Johnny test writers were inspired off this

honestly i'd probably say neither my best guess is they saw how gen 2 and 3 were named after gems and minerals, hence why pokemon rom hack titles aren't that difficult to come up with usually unless you're reaally aiming to think outside the box.

Nonetheless i do see your point, and it could be entirely possible.

The infamous copy-pasted Sintax bootlegs, uses the same engine but with a graphics swap. Has the infamous Fighter Sonic game that was discussed a lot online because of its obscurity.
