French isn't readily available in most US Schools but there are several independent classes that people take to learn another language.
Spanish education is very popular in both media and schools right now, so many schools are now giving spanish lessons though the quality of such classes vary from place to place.

Also, dont forget that the internet makes it really easy to learn a new language or just get some stuff translated so he/she may or may not actually speak french.

I'm from northern New York, near Albany. Because we're so close to Canada both French and Spanish are common languages in highschool. And yes, I know, this part of the forum is very boring; i'm surprised that I even got this many responses. Thanks again, I'll start posing around.
