Blocking online updates and the install update nag

Hello all,

Tgames over at the Wii U Hacking & Homebrew forum made this tutorial for the Wii U.
I basically just collected addresses to block for the 3DS.

It also seems to also block the "install downloaded update" nagging for me, when the proxy is turned on. If it is turned off, it starts nagging me about it again.

I think it stops nagging because it can connect to the internet to check for a update, but gets a error in return and tries again. As soon as it cannot get any response, it is going to assume it is offline, and install the downloaded update instead.

This is the modified tutorial made by Tgames.

The solution :

- Block onlines updates

- Only need a PC on Windows that all ! (No router to configure).

- Should be capable of playing online.

- Keep the 3DS on your current FW.

Requirements :

- The same Network connection on PC and 3DS (just don't have the 3DS connected to the internet, to play it safe pull the internet from your WiFi and then set up the proxy as it fails to connect but save your access point info, which you then can edit. Or a update could be downloaded!)

- Need a PC always on to keep access to internet and blocking for the 3DS (Without no there internet access on the device connected to the proxy).

- Download and install CCProxy v8.0 (http://www.youngzsoft.net/ccproxy/proxy-server-download.htm)

Just follow the steps according to the images.
Now your 3DS is protected against auto-updates and partly the nagging... :yaysp:

Again, credits Tgames for the basic tutorial and screenshots of CCproxy. :)

What I don't understand is... Sure, he won't share it with GBAtemp because of some... hard feelings. But why won't he share it anywhere else? Does he hate all of the internet now?

i dont see why he would want to get back on gba temp if he thinks its there is a "lack of quality posts around here"
if he likes he can just view the forum as a guest and never have to worry about being treated unfairly, if there is no good posts he shouldn't want to come here all that often anyway

I did. He shared it with me but told me not to share it on gbatemp. Apparently he has had a horrible experience on gbatemp with mods abusing their power going all ban-hammer-trigger happy. He doesn't want to contribute to gbatemp anymore because of this.

Sorry fellas. All I can do at this point of time is to say is that it is a much simpler solution since you can go online anywhere and simple perform this procedure when you're home should your 3ds have downloaded an update and the dreaded update nag appears. I tried it on my 3ds xl and it works.

Honestly I don't know why you dug your self into this hole. Why mention something you can't provide proof of because of some NDA agreement with a friend or something?

Next time, if you can't provide direct proof of a supposed exploit or something similar, it's best to stay silent on it. Things only get worse if you claim things but never provide anything concrete on it. Especially here where we've seen are fair share of hoaxes and frauds.

I don't really see the point in this thread tbh. If you are using Emunand on your 3DS then all you do in your system settings is clear all your wifi connection settings, turn off in Spotpass Automatic Software Downloads & Sending of System Information and then put a parental code lock on your internet settings then its all done properly for you anyway, you should have no worries at all in the future about your 3DS updating whether your wifi switch is on or off and also just make sure when you are in Emunand and you set up a further wifi internet connection double check you have erased it from your system settings when you have finished in Emunand system settings cause it will appear there as well and it will be connected. This thread is just unnecessary hard work to go about blocking updates for your 3DS and also was pointless for the WiiU as well in the end.

Unless you know, you like playing online.

My friend says he will only release the method himself once his account is unbanned and a public apology issued for the blatant misuse of power by the mod in question.

Given the brazen manipulativeness of this tactic, I'd say your "friend" was right to be banned. He sounds rather arrogant and unable to accept another's authority.

Moreoever, I'd bet $100 that you yourself are the mystery "friend" in question.

Because the internet is the internet. If he were to share it on say maxconsole, someone would repost it here.

Like I've said. I myself decided to share the existence of such a thing so that others could work it out themselves. If you could think of a way I can provide proof without revealing the method please let me know. Also, I could have used the "I am not releasing it until I am sure that it will work on update 9.x, I do not wish to waste this method". I'm pretty sure if I said that people will react differently.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, don't shoot the messenger. Given your love in accepting authority without question and even though the authority was at wrong, perhaps you should consider moving to North Korea. I hear Kimmy is looking for some best buds.

Given your "friend's" refusal to accept accountability for his/her actions, together with his/her unilateral placement of blame on the other, perhaps her/she may wish to speak to someone who can help him/her with this particular symptom.

It may be beneficial in the long run, lest he/she continues to alienate others with this perverse behavior.

So he won't post anything anywhere ever just because he hates some place on the internet (which encompasses not even 0.0001% of the whole internet). That seems awfully extreme. Too extreme.
I can't judge whether he was banned unjustly or not, so I won't comment on that. However, if this were to be the case, then his reaction is far from mature or logical and more something I expect from a 5-year-old girl. "You did something I don't like. I'm not speaking to you or anyone associated to you anymore!"

Strange, this topic is going in an interesting direction. As a staff member who has no real authority besides front paging material, I can't speak for the rest, but usually, if someone ends up banned, there's always a damning good reason about it, and more than likely we're missing a few key details.

There's always a "new member" jumping to the defence of someone who was recently banned, I haven't seen anyone banned without several warnings (unless they did something excessively bad or offensive), I'm guessing from the post it was something minor which his post was deleted for so he started ranting at staff

I still can't connect to the internet on my 2ds am I doing something wrong I did what the post said to do please help me

It works fine for me, just make sure CCProxy is turned on, and double check the settings. Also the proxy settings on your 3DS.

The WiFi should be on the same local network in order for it to work.
