best video player for cheap (android) tablet

my friend which is very poor.. bought a cheap tablet, since he has no internet he asked me to get cartoons for his kids to watch
the problem is, i have loads of movies in mkv or codecs that the built in player can't read.. and i don't want to waste hours converting every single movie..
i tried vlc on my phone for testing, but it gives a lot of video glitches and weird framerate... sometimes it stops..

basically. what is the best light video player to watch movies..

Doesn't matter, most videos doesn't use this codec.

In case you really need ac3 & DTS you can download the codec from xda. Simply google "mxplayer codec" and it should be in the top results. (not the google play links)
