Hello, this was probably asked many times, but answers quickly lose their actuality. :)
What's the best 3DS-ready flashcard currently? I'd like the one that would work on DS, DSi, 3DS and has the best games compatibility and strongest developer support. I'm not interested in the homebrew compatibility and such. I'm also looking at the price.
From my research it's Acekard 2i. Am I right? All opinions welcome, great thanks. :)

Acekard 2i, or if you can't afford one, any 3DS-Ready R4 that's Wood-Compatible, most notably R4i Gold/R4iDSN.

OK, many thanks. Now may I ask how to avoid Acekard 2i fakes and clones? Right now Videogameplaza.com sells them for $12.5. Can they be trusted?

Original Acekard 2i's nowadays have a holographic sticker on the back - you enter the number from the sticker into their online checker and they check whether or not it is genuine.

This means one could only learn after the fact? What are the shortcomings of a clone? The original FW won't work? I assume it's true for the fake ones.

This applies to any online store - you never know what you're buying before you actually get it. You just have to buy from recommended stores, such as GBATemp's sponsor. ;)

My suggestion is the "R4i Gold 3DS" from the www.r4ids.cn team. Great card and super easy usage! :) So far no one has cloned it (Sophisticated forum members please don't split hairs on this comment as I already know what you might say, thank you). Also I want to mention, I love Acekard 2i but updates have been slow for months. Otherwise, it would have been my first suggestion. Anyways, the website ndsgamer.com has real Acekard 2i cards and they ship from Texas, USA. Use this link for $2 dollars off what they charge the average Joe.

I second jimmyemunozs suggestion for the "R4i Gold 3DS" because of the Wood kernel.

Be careful though, when I peeled the sticker from my acekard, the number almost completely came off with it.

i would ask the reseller to check the number before shipping it out, and i would avoid resellers who refused to do this. then after the card arrives i would check it a second time. if the number has been checked more than twice you'll know its a fake. since you asked them to check before shipping you'll have a leg to stand on when you *attempt* to return it.

the ak2i is a great kit, well supported, high compatibility, supports some homebrew other cards do not, etc. however, it can have contact issues. you should consider this before buying.

check this: http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/Solving_Acekard_2i_Contact_Issues

the r4i gold and the r4idsn from the .cn team are great cards. the r4i gold is a clone of the GEi which is a clone of the ak2i (made from the plans acekard sold over 2 years ago). so far they have been able to support the bootloader and the wood firwmare keeps the compatibility very high. i've recently read that the r4i gold has undergone a hardware change. i never followed up to find out what changed or if it causes any issues. you might want to post in gbatemp's r4 section and ask any further questions there.
